CODE OF CONDUCT

Before you enter any of our specific forums, take a moment to read this important information about the ACON recovery forum's principles and policies. If you do not want to agree to this Code of Conduct, please do not enter the discussion forums.

As a user of the forums, you are subject to rules. Users who violate the terms may be banned permanently from using the forums.

To participate in the discussion forums, it is required that you accept and adhere to the principles and policies. These reminders will be regularly posted in the discussion forums:

There will be no posts containing:

• insults to other members
• malice or rageful outbursts towards other members
• offline names of any person who has not given their permission to be named unless they are already well known in the public media
• personal phone numbers
• slanderous statements
• suicide threats
• stalking or behind the scenes harassing of other members
• threats to other members

Anyone who does will be removed.

1. Welcome adults of all ages, races, religions, genders, national origins, sexual orientations and points of view. There will be no tolerating expressions of bigotry, hatred, harassment, stalking or other abusive behavior.
2. Your right to speak freely here must be exercised with courtesy and self-restraint. When you enter it is like entering any other privately-owned facility, such as a class room, auditorium, movie theater, restaurant, or shopping mall. There is an expectation you will be well mannered and respectful of the rights of others. The etiquette and laws of the "real world" apply, and the list owner has the right to remove you just as would happen in the "real world" if you fail to comply with the rules. The list owner reserves the right to refuse membership to anyone for any reason. Because there is encouragement for discussion and exchange of ideas, threatening, defamatory, abusive, tasteless or indecorous statements are not allowed. For the same reason, vulgar material in conversations, topics or nicknames are not permitted. Personal communication in an atmosphere of mutual respect is what is hoped to be achieved. 
3. You are entirely responsible and liable for all activities conducted through your behavior here. The list owner is unable to predict, much less control, your conduct, and expressly denies responsibility or liability toward you. Healthy communication is encouraged and communication determined to be disruptive is discouraged. Nonetheless, this is a volunteer organization, and therefore the list owner does not promise to remove offensive postings within any specified amount of time.
4. It is recognized that children and teens need to have discussion areas that are appropriate for them, but we do not offer them at this website. Any discussion that suggests or encourages interaction between children or teens and adults for improper or illegal purposes is not allowed. For the same reason sexually-suggestive innuendoes or double entendres are not appropriate in these forums. If you are under the age of eighteen, this site is not developed for you. Please leave now, and do not return.
5. These forums are for legal activities only. You cannot use these discussion forums to commercially distribute unauthorized copies of copyrighted material, including photos, artwork, text, recordings, designs, or computer programs. In addition, we do not allow the trading or swapping of images that are sexually explicit. Additionally, even though impersonating someone else may not be illegal in all jurisdictions, the best will be done to prevent any member from doing so in these discussion forums.
6. It is not encouraged in any of these discussion forums to give personal identifying information or passwords to anyone in any of our interactive areas. Users should be aware that when they disclose personal identifying information such as their actual names, member names, telephone numbers, street addresses, personal websites, e-mail addresses, etc., in any online interactive area, the information may be collected and used by others to send users unsolicited e-mail from other parties, or to engage in stalking or other forms of harassment. Such behavior is deplored, but the list owner has no power to prevent it. Prevention falls to the user, by withholding all information of the sort that can lead to such abuse. Stalking of others in these discussion forums or in another manner, is a serious offense. In many areas, such behavior is considered to be a criminal act. Whether it is forbidden in your jurisdiction or not, it is forbidden in the ACON recovery discussion forums.
7. There is no guarantee of the content of comments that you will receive while you are online. Other people's comments may be offensive, harmful or inaccurate. While the ACON discussion forums may offer a broad range of topics, participants do not offer professional or medical advice of any kind, and no responsibility is taken for members' communications, either through our website or privately with you, or your reactions to them.
8. No bots or scripts may be placed on our server by anyone but the list owner or group moderators. No posting or use of computer programs that contain destructive features, such as viruses, worms, Trojan horses, etc. will be allowed. Anyone attempting to install such programs on our server will be reported to the proper authorities.
9. No commercial activity is permitted, including unsolicited advertising, promotional materials, or any other form of solicitation to other users. 
10. The list owner reserves the right to release your identifying information to the proper authorities, because of a violation of the principles, or because of unlawful acts, if the information is subpoenaed or otherwise compelled by legal process, or if deemed necessary and/or appropriate.
